It was my pleasure to participate May 14 on a panel at the second annual Nonprofit Business Summit, hosted by the Phoenix Business Journal, and attended by more than 500 C level nonprofit executives.
Focusing on the subject “New Media for The Common Good”, the session allowed us to discuss ideas for deploying new media online technology on behalf of nonprofit organizations. This included a good rundown on working strategies that use online resources such as social networking sites and tools to enhance relationships with a wide variety of organization stakeholders.
It was my good fortune to find that Panel Moderator Aaron Stiner, Advancing Philanthropy Program Manager at the ASU Lodestar Center, had selected two other highly knowledgeable panel members who offered focused, pragmatic advice, and as a result I learned more about online new media by participating on the panel than I had through weeks of studying and reading beforehand.
The panel led off with what amounted to a social media primer by Katie Charland, Social Networking Consultant with the ASU Cronkite School of Journalism. If you only have a couple of minutes to spare, just listen to the advice she provides in the accompanying video of the workshop, it’s priceless.
Equally relevant was the guidance provided by Chris Rogers, Vice President Communications for the Valley of the Sun United Way. Based on his own considerable experience, Chris provided a terrific overview of tactics that work, and others that need to be phased in over time, as well as imparting why new media operates as a complement to traditional communication, and is not a replacement.
And of course, I provided some insight into how AmazingCauses got off the ground as a new offering from AmazingMail, how it works, and what causes it’s already helped and can help in the future.
So enjoy the video and the advice and experience offered.
